Client
Software development and communications services company, with 2,300 employees worldwide
Background
This company had a Director of Development Automation and Performance Engineering position had been open for more than five months. No qualified candidates had been found using the company’s traditional hiring practices.
eHire had worked with the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Global Strategy at this company when he was with previous employers and maintained a close, personal relationship with him over the years. The SVP asked eHire to conduct a search on his company’s behalf because the position was critical to the company’s growth plans. He knew that our effective methods for recruiting passive candidates who are not actively in the job market would only complement his company’s existing hiring efforts.
Search Objectives
Find several Director-level candidates for the Development Automation and Performance Engineering position who were hands-on with current automation technologies used for large-scale Java and open-source software development environments
Focus on talent who could handle moving from a traditional software development and release schedule to something more “web time” (i.e. agile processes, code re-use and streamlined QA processes leading to more features and more frequently released modules)
Process
We worked closely with the client until we understood all technical and leadership skills required for the Director of Development Automation and Performance Engineering position. Then, we identified the candidates we had spoken to in the past for similar roles, both from a technical and seniority perspective.
When developing our short list of candidates, one particular person rose to the top of the list. We knew him because of a Senior QA Management assignment we had been working on several months prior. Immediately, we called him to explain the value proposition for all parties. On the second day of our search efforts, he agreed to be submitted for consideration. Days later, this candidate interviewed with the company’s executives in person.
Results
Within seven days of the client agreeing to the search terms, we had an offer from the client and a verbal acceptance from the top candidate. Using our vast network of relationships, eHire solved this staffing problem in a fraction of the time it was taking the hiring company. In addition, eHire’ personal relationship with the SVP at this company provided a huge advantage in getting the pertinent details to sell this job opportunity effectively to the candidate and in negotiating the hiring terms. |
