Senior Database Administrator

Database Administrator III responsibilities may include but not limited to monitoring performance of databases and their server hardware, ensuring databases are backed up and backups are tested on a regular basis, assisting with database and query tuning. Additionally, monitoring and managing SQL Server security, access, and availability as well as remediation of periodic deficiencies determined by infosec security scans. This position will require on-call rotations including some night and weekend work and performs direct production and operational support including some development support. All duties, projects and tasks are performed in compliance with company policy and appropriately documented.

Essential Functions:

Maintain stability, integrity, and reliability of all databases.

Maintain security and accessibility of databases and their systems for all corporate customers

Perform installations, security patching and upgrade of database systems to include Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.

Monitor database jobs, data feeds and export import operations.

Monitor database storage requirements working in conjunction with Storage Engineers and Developers to maintain database availability.

Maintain, plan, and implement existing and new database systems, jobs, replication topologies and index/statistics performance.

Document new and modified or undocumented processes and systems.

Troubleshoot and resolve database system performance, query performance and connectivity.

Respond and resolve ServiceNow ticketing system incidents.

Follow company Change Management and Problem Management policy.

Provide database system expertise to assist developers, analytics, and operations.

Provide periodic training to IT and Operations team members in database operations and best practices.

On request assist the Database Development team in developing or tuning database objects, stored procedures, functions, or views.

Necessary Skills:

Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server database system administration.

Excellent interpersonal communication and documentation skills.

Troubleshooting, problem solving and problem resolution skills.

SSIS, SSRS, T-SQL, SQL Agent, SQL Mail and SQL Security

Indexing, replication, encryption, logging, partitioning and availability groups

Manage jobs, backups, user accounts, database objects and permissions.

Troubleshooting and tuning of T-SQL, stored procedures, views, triggers, functions, and other objects.

Project Management and plan management to include time management skills.

Experience managing SQL Server Availability Group roles within a Microsoft Windows Cluster

Maintaining organization of assigned tasks in accordance with task/project requirements.

Basic mathematical skills needed to calculate totals, averages, percentages, differentials, and extrapolation.

Comprehension of oral as well as written instructions to include critical and analytical thinking around the stated goals of a task to suggest possible improvements to a process.

MySQL a plus.

PowerShell a plus.

Database modeling and relational design best practices a plus.


Strong self-starter and able to learn as you go.

Well-spoken and able to express cogent ideas on tasks and projects as well as possible suggestions for improvement to methods and procedures.

Works well with team members and customers to achieve stated goals.

Works well on individual assignments to achieve stated goals.

Education and Experience:

BA/BS Degree or equivalent experience.

5+ Years of Microsoft SQL Server database administration required.

5+ Years of demonstrable development of stored procedures, functions and views required.

5+ Years of full system and application life cycle experience required.

In depth knowledge of database backups, restores and replication required.

Experience with Oracle MySQL, PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB desired.
