Technical Scrum Master

We are looking for a Technical Scrum Master who can make a significant impact in many areas that are crucial to our business. Whether the situation calls for being a servant-leader or it requires more technical facilitation, the goal is all the same; strengthen our organization’s ability to deliver on-time, high-quality products. This individual will work with one or more development teams to build scalable software with a well-defined software development life cycle process. This includes Agile based software development (Scrum and other frameworks), software technical project management, requirements traceability, test case management, defect tracking and first-line triage support.

  1. ideal candidate must also possess a strong understanding of agile frameworks, with Scrum being a plus, and be able to articulate their concepts and values based on prior experience. The Technical Scrum Master should independently be able to effectively and efficiently manage the development sprints from planning to execution to review in an evolving agile environment. In addition to the technical responsibilities listed above, you will be responsible for leading and coaching multiple platform and application development teams, coordinating and scheduling team ceremonies, measuring progress and monitoring team performance (scope, schedule, quality). Responsibility also includes coordinating with other scrum masters and subject matter experts to resolve impediments and understand key inter-team dependencies.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist with the maintenance of product backlog(s) including writing, refining and prioritizing user stories
  • Lead the agile development teams in the delivery of business critical enterprise software development projects by promoting continuous improvement
  • Proactively engage with members across various areas to remove impediments
  • Exercise intellectual curiosity while encouraging and aiding development teams, product owners, and stake holders in setting and meeting meaningful obtainable goals
  • Foster team and individual growth, in all areas of Scrum, by establishing customized plans for furthering education, based on first-hand observation and provided feedback
  • Lead/Participate in quarterly program increment planning sessions;
  • Support the triage and resolution of critical issues and ensure cross-team coordination
  • Assist with triaging first level issues before they get assigned to engineers
  • Assist with internal and external communication to improve transparency
  • Foster a positive environment to help preserve healthy team discussion and conflict resolution
  • Provide support with change management, risk management, release management and facilitate release planning activities
  • Organize, facilitate, and contribute in project planning, daily stand-ups meetings, reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning and other related meetings;
  • Coordinate customer demos as well as internal demos to enable learning and cross-training
  • Develop, track and communicate team progress through velocity, burndown charts, and other metrics
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

Note: Qualifications listed are guidelines. Other factors may be considered.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience in software development, integration or other IT related projects as a software engineer, technical lead or analyst
  • 3-5 years’ experience as a Scrum Master for a software development team required
  • Hold a current Certified Scrum Master (CSM or A-CSM ) certification
  • Experience working with multiple teams preferred
  • Experience working with distributed teams (including global) preferred
  • Working knowledge or experience with IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC) preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of agile frameworks including Scrum and Kanban required;
  • Thorough understanding of agile software development methodologies, values and procedures along with along with knowledge of SDLC processes and best practices
  • Experienced facilitation skills including active listening, asking the right questions, process design, agenda planning, communication and organization skills
  • Knowledge of supply chain logistics preferred
  • Experience with Postman a plus
  • Experience with Service Orientated Architecture a plus
  • Experience with Selenium a plus
  • Basic ability to read/understand XML/JSON messages
  • Knowledge of back-end DBs including relational and non-relational a plus
